Ilanit Spokoyny, MD

Dr. Ilana Spokoyny is a Vascular Neurologist who joined the Sutter West Bay Medical Group Stroke Team in 2017. Dr. Spokoyny received both her undergraduate degree in Bioengineering and her medical degree at the University of California, San Diego. She completed her Neurology residency at UCSD, where she was appointed Chief Resident in her final year. Dr. Spokoyny completed her Vascular Neurology fellowship at Stanford University, followed by an NIH StrokeNet Research Fellowship.
Dr. Spokoyny’s primary area of interest is in Stroke Systems of Care. She has developed patient education initiatives on stroke identification, trained first responders in stroke recognition and treatment, and created electronic tools to optimize clinical trial enrollment for acute stroke patients. Dr. Spokoyny frequently speaks at conferences and community events, educating both healthcare professionals and the public on stroke identification and advances in stroke care. She serves as the inaugural Medical Director of the Sutter Health Systemwide Telestroke Program, which provides hospitals with much-needed access to stroke expertise and serves patients throughout Northern California. She has also served as the Medical Director for the Sutter Health Mobile Stroke Unit since its launch. The Sutter Health Mills-Peninsula MSU in San Mateo County is the first and only Northern California MSU. This innovative and unique program is changing the landscape of pre-hospital stroke care.
Dr. Spokoyny has authored numerous first-author peer-reviewed manuscripts and continues to focus on advancing innovative systems to improve stroke care delivery and outcomes.
