Walter Ismael Ochoa is a highly skilled technical expert specializing in the setup, operation, and maintenance of simulation, hospital, and audiovisual/IT equipment used in clinical and educational environments. With a deep background in simulation-based healthcare education, Walter has been instrumental in delivering high-quality, hands-on learning experiences for healthcare professionals at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA., and most recently at Sutter Health University in Sacramento, CA.
Currently serving as the Simulation Specialist at Sutter Health University Simulation Center, Walter oversees the operation of a variety of simulator technologies, including high-fidelity patient simulators, procedural skills trainers, and virtual reality simulators. His role involves the technical setup, scenario development, and troubleshooting to ensure the seamless execution of simulation-based educational events, aligning with institutional goals and enhancing learner engagement. He is a key figure in training faculty and staff in the use of advanced simulation tools, offering support in scenario programming, equipment operation, and simulation-related software.
Walter holds both an Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification from UCLA and a Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. His extensive training in simulation technologies includes certifications in operating systems for simulators from Gaumard®, Leardal®, and various VR simulation systems, further strengthening his ability to enhance simulation programs across diverse healthcare domains.
Prior to his current role, Walter held various positions at Cedars-Sinai, including Lead Simulation Specialist, Residency and Fellowship Program Coordinator for the Department of Anesthesiology, and Simulation/Management Assistant in the Simulation Center. His experience extends to managing educational programs, coordinating residency training logistics, and supporting the development of training materials and multimedia content.
Walter is dedicated to the advancement of simulation in healthcare and is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSIH) and the Sociedad Mexicana de Simulacion en Ciencias de la Salud (SOMESICS). Additionally, he contributes to the Society of Trauma Nurses as an ATCN Course Coordinator, further demonstrating his commitment to the field.
