Series Description: 

The SRMC Continuing Professional Development Grand Rounds is an educational series designed to improve the broad practice of acute care medicine, including patient care, healthcare research, medical education, public health, and innovation. This series includes current evidence-based guidelines and recommendations on a wide array of topics intended to improve team performance and patient outcomes. Relevant cases studies or application to practice exercises are presented to promote active learning strategies in this interprofessional collaborative education event which is open to the entire interprofessional team including students and medical residents.

Learning Objectives: 

Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Interpret the Fundamentals of AI in Healthcare: Define key concepts of artificial intelligence and recognize basic examples of its application in the medical field.
  2. Trace the Evolution of AI in Medicine: Outline the historical development and significant milestones of AI integration into healthcare practices.
  3. Identify Current Applications and Opportunities: Discuss present-day examples of AI in healthcare, assess the greatest opportunities for its application, and explore initiatives undertaken by other organizations.
  4. Comprehend Responsible AI and Governance: Examine the principles of ethical AI use, understand governance frameworks, and evaluate current and potential strategies within our organization.
  5. Engage in AI Integration: Determine actionable steps for medical professionals to collaborate in AI initiatives, including avenues for learning, engagement, and adapting their roles to incorporate AI advancements.
