Rukshan Matteucci, Certified Medical Assistant
I started my medical career at the Frederick Marcus Oncology Clinic that was based in Redwood City next to Sequoia Hospital. During this time, I was lucky to be mentored by Dr. Marcus himself and admired his caring characteristics that made this clinic unique and special. The staff blended very well to form a very cohesive working environment that was essential for patients receiving chemotherapy treatment in our office. After being dedicated to the team for almost 9 years and with the very unfortunate passing of Dr. Marcus, I begun to explore other specialties in medicine. I joined the Sutter Health Cardiology team in San Carlos in 2015, where I was very fortunate to work with great a cardiologist as well as an amazing CPMC Heart Transplant and LVAD team. When the Covid Pandemic started, I was one of the first to start working in the garage on March 13th, 2020. This was an optional opportunity to work outside in the parking structure at San Carlos. In a first of its kind scenario with a disease that everyone was just learning about, we were implementing change daily in the garage. Then the wildfires took California over as did Covid in August 2020. With poor air quality and ash all around us we had to close the RCC San Carlos garage and open the San Mateo RCC. We had to move Covid testing inside the trailer and create a drive by service for patients, where they could receive services such as Covid/Flu and RSV testing. It is amazing to me how well we all worked together given the challenging circumstances, wearing full PPE in the smoke, ash, and heat. Some of us blame Covid in bringing the worse out in us but for me this was a 2 1/2-year journey that built me to be better, kind, and bring out humanity in me that I didn’t know existed. I also got to meet so many wonderful colleagues from all over Sutter Health/PAMF. It was an experience I will never forget. While working in this role, I then was offered a position to be supervisor of the Urgent Care Clinic in Palo Alto, where I helped implement great team rapport to have everyone work together in achieving excellence with patient care experiences. I was born and raised in the Fiji Islands, until I left for the Bay Area at the age of 21. I have resided in the cities of Daly City, South San Francisco, Burlingame, and San Mateo since this time, and enjoy the multi cultures that this area offers. In my spare time I enjoy playing tennis and taking walks with my husband Marc and our fur baby, Charlotte. I also love cooking and enjoy watching sports, especially the 49er games during football season
