Kathy Guillen, RN, BSN, MSN, OCN
I have been a dedicated Staff Nurse II for Sutter Roseville Medical Center since May of 2009. I began very early by being the 5th graduating class of the Sutter Heath Extended Nursing Program through Sacramento City College. I began my career in the inpatient Oncology/Telemetry unit when the first additional patient bed tower was constructed. Within six months of being a registered nurse, my mentors noticed a leadership quality within me and immediately placed me in the Resource/Charge Nurse role. I then was recruited to occasionally float to the Infusion Center where I could develop my chemotherapy/biotherapy administration skills. Since permanently moving to the Infusion Center, I have divulged myself into numerous projects including improvements to the Chemotherapy/Biotherapy flowsheet through an SN III project, successfully completed my Oncology Certified Nursing exam, worked on safety improvements throughout the unit including implementation of all quality measures. In the meantime, I completed by BSN through Sacramento State as well as my MSN in Nursing Leadership through Grand Canyon University. Since 2024, I have co-chaired the Pathways to Excellence, Professional Governance department-based council where a lot of my passion lies. I am a Pathways to Excellence champion who has successfully communicated the importance of this nurse-driven initiative. I have also volunteered my time to become a safety-Reliability coach for our unit as well as partnering with clinical educators in the inpatient Oncology setting to better educate our staff nurses.
