Description:
The Back-to-Basics Program is designed for RNs working in all ambulatory perioperative areas including pre-op, the operating room and PACU. Using the AORN principles as a framework for evidence-based content, this program offers a review of skills such as peripheral IV starts, airway management, nerve blocks and care of the pediatric patient. Additionally, this course addresses incivility and professional communication, universal protocol and prevention of sentinel events.

Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, learners will be able to:
1.) Identify common causes for sentinel events in the perioperative space. This includes modalities to address these errors.
2.) Demonstrate an understanding of the three stages of universal protocol.
3.) Verbalize which consent form will be used in which scenarios.
4.) Verbalize three ways to adapt nursing care to provide gender-affirming care
5.) Perform peripheral IV starts
6.) Demonstrate ability to manage patient airway treatment, including insertion of OPA, NPA, and assisting anesthesia with intubation
