Pooja Jaeel, MD, FACP

Pooja Jaeel, MD, FACP is a Med-Peds–trained physician and educator whose work focuses on advancing health equity, inclusion, and belonging through clinical care, graduate medical education, and national advocacy. She is a board-certified pediatrician and internist and currently practices as an adult hospitalist at Sutter CPMC Mission Bernal Hospital and as a general pediatrician in the East Bay. Her clinical work emphasizes patient-centered, evidence-based care across the lifespan, with particular attention to addressing social drivers of health and reducing disparities in access and outcomes.
Dr. Jaeel is a Faculty Champion for Improving Healthcare Access, Building Trust, and Belonging within Sutter CPMC GME, where she leads a grant-funded initiative to standardize health equity and social drivers of health curricula across nine residency and fellowship programs. In this role, she collaborates with program leadership, trainees, and community partners to conduct needs assessments, develop learner-driven curricula, and embed disparities education into existing didactics. Her educational innovations include small-group modules grounded in the local San Francisco patient population, a community speaker series, and facilitated opportunities for trainee community engagement and mentorship. She is also the creator of a community-facing Geriatric Educational Series focused on aging well and preventive health, developed in partnership with senior support organizations.
Nationally, Dr. Jaeel has held numerous leadership roles within the American College of Physicians, including Chair of the Council of Residents and Fellows, member of the Board of Governors and Board of Regents, and inaugural resident member of the ACP National Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, where she contributed to policy statements and initiatives advancing equity in medicine. She is the co-executive producer and co-host of The DEI Shift podcast, a nationally recognized platform dedicated to advancing conversations on diversity, equity, and inclusion in healthcare. Her commitment to mentorship, humanism, and advocacy has been recognized with honors including the American Academy of Pediatrics Chapter Teaching Award and the Arthur P. Gold Humanism Award.
