Akanksha Sharma is board certified in neurology, neuro-oncology and hospice/palliative medicine. She completed her training at the University of Washington and Mayo Clinic Arizona. Prior to joining Sutter Health, she was a neuro-oncologist at Pacific Neuroscience Institute and Providence Saint John's Medical Center in Santa Monica, CA. Over the years she developed an integrated palliative care model of care for patients with brain tumors and also served as Director of Neuro Oncology Research at Saint John's Cancer Institute, where she was promoted to Associate Professor. Dr Sharma's clinical and research interests are focused around the goal of providing patient centric, goal concordant care, in an effort to maximize both quality and quantity of life, and on research that explores and alleviates caregiver distress and prognostic uncertainty. She has been recruited to Sutter Health to help develop a comprehensive clinical and research program in Neuro Oncology at CPMC, with the goal of providing system wide support and expertise in the field.
