William McMullen, Ph.D., ABPP-CN

William McMullen, Ph.D., ABPP-CN is a CA Licensed Psychologist who is Board Certified in Clinical Neuropsychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology. He has been the Director of Neuropsychological Services for the Sutter Pacific Epilepsy and Movement Disorders Programs since their inception. Dr. McMullen completed his undergraduate degree in music at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, MD before transitioning to the study of psychology. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Clinical Neuropsychology at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. He completed his predoctoral internship at the Cleveland VA Medical Center, and then completed a 2-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology at UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric Institute. Dr. McMullen then served for 2 years as a faculty member at NYU’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center in New York City, before moving back to the “best coast” in 1997.
In 1998, Dr. McMullen connected with Dr. Peter Weber (Neurosurgeon) at a time when Dr. Weber was just starting what would become the Sutter Pacific Epilepsy Program. Dr. McMullen has worked for Sutter for the past 28 years; first at Mills Health Center and later through California Pacific Medical Center and Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation. He has been active in leadership roles in Bay Area professional organizations including serving a term as President of the Northern California Neuropsychology Forum. He is the only non-MD to have served as the President (2021-2022) of the San Francisco Neurological Society in its 79-year history and is currently President-Elect of the Neuropsychology Division (Division VIII) of the California Psychological Association. With his colleagues at CPA-Division VIII, he helped to promote the passage of the new California law that established the existence of Psychological Testing Technicians.
