Cathra Halabi, MD, is the Neurorecovery Program Chief in the Department of Neurology's Neurovascular Division, the founding director of the UCSF Neurorecovery Clinic, and the co-founding director of the UCSF Post-Acute Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program. She is board certified in Neurology and Vascular Neurology. She treats patients hospitalized with neurovascular emergencies such as ischemic stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage. She also treats patients recovering from brain injuries including stroke and concussion/TBI. Her research interests include identifying patient and injury features that predict or augment recovery. She is an active member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) Action Collaborative on TBI Care and the NIH StrokeNet Recovery and Rehabilitation working group. In response to the NASEM TBI Roadmap report and Action Collaborative outputs, she is helping to lead development of post-acute concussion/TBI care clinics around the country toward creation of a learning healthcare system. She has received the Teaching Excellence Award for Cherished Housestaff and the Robert B. Layzer Golden Toe Award for Excellence in Neurology Resident Teaching. She holds the inaugural Howard and Gretchen Leach Endowed Professorship in Neurology.
