Cathryn Hatley, Cathryn Hatley, RN, BSN

I have been a registered nurse since May 2010, after completing my nursing education in Northern California at Butte College. I also earned an Associate of Arts degree in Science from Yuba College and completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Western Governors University in May 2025.
I began my career with Sutter Health in 2011 as a Registered Nurse Case Manager with Sutter Care at Home, where I worked for nearly ten years. Home health nursing was incredibly meaningful to me and helped shape the nurse and leader I am today. Caring for patients in their homes and supporting families during vulnerable times taught me the importance of compassion, strong care coordination, and understanding the full patient journey beyond the hospital walls. Case management remains one of my core areas of expertise and continues to influence how I approach system improvement and patient care.
In 2021, I transitioned into the hospital setting at a small Sutter hospital where I began working in Infection Prevention. I soon moved into a Quality Manager role, supporting a wide range of responsibilities at the site. In a smaller hospital environment, I had the opportunity to wear many hats, working across infection prevention, quality improvement, risk management, nursing administration, and medical staff support. I also helped prepare and support board meetings and led several accreditation and certification efforts, including Joint Commission surveys and orthopedic certification programs for total hip and total knee replacement.
Through these experiences, I developed strong expertise in survey readiness, understanding regulatory standards, and helping organizations prepare for accreditation and certification reviews. My work has focused on quality improvement, building reliable workflows, and helping teams understand how to meet and sustain performance standards.
In December 2024, I moved into my current role within the Sutter Health Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Service Line. In this position, I support system-wide orthopedic initiatives focused on quality improvement, advanced certification, patient-reported outcomes (PROMs), and national registry participation, including work related to orthopedic registries and outcomes reporting. Much of my work centers on helping teams capture meaningful data, measure outcomes, and use that information to improve patient care and program performance.
My mission in healthcare has always been to advocate for patients and support the teams who care for them. I believe that when we measure outcomes, collaborate across disciplines, and keep the patient experience at the center of our work, we can continually improve the care we provide. I am passionate about helping teams succeed, strengthening quality and registry programs, and building systems that support safe, effective, and patient-centered care across the communities we serve.
