Abdul Mureed Alim, M.D, FASAM, AAHIVS
Dr. Abdul Mureed Alim, MD, FASAM, AAHIVS, is an addiction medicine and family medicine physician whose work is grounded in the belief that substance use disorders must be met with empathy, not stigma. He is dedicated to transforming how clinicians understand and treat addiction—shifting the focus toward a compassionate, biopsychosocial, and harm reduction–informed approach.
His clinical and academic work spans addiction medicine, mental health, HIV care, and overdose prevention, with a strong commitment to addressing social determinants of health and expanding access to care for vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness and refugees. As a clinical educator, Dr. Alim is passionate about training the next generation of physicians to deliver evidence-based, person-centered care.
He has a particular interest in caring for hospitalized patients with substance use disorders, viewing hospitalization as a powerful opportunity to initiate treatment and build pathways to long-term recovery. Outside of medicine, he enjoys Persian music, nature, and time with his family.
