Jesse Brooks
News maker, Journalist, Activist, Filmmaker, Photographer; Motivational Speaker, Peer advocate and Community mobilizer, Jesse Brooks is a role model to those living with HIV stigma, homophobia and discrimination. Raised in Oakland, California, and living as an African American gay man living well with HIV, he utilizes his perspective to strengthen and elevate the wellness of others. As the co-chair of the POZ+ committee fort East Bay getting to Zero, he is spearheading the first “East Bay AIDS Memorial Garden. He is the Advocacy Coordinator of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation of Northern California, and part of the “Community Advisory Board for UCSF/CAPS Research Community Advisory Board. He heads a group “Positively Speakers” taking them into High schools to talk with students and giving them a picture of someone living with HIV/AIDS. For over 10 years he had a weekly HIV column in the “Post” newspapers. Through his photography he has an extensive collection of history of the HIV community in the bay area. Jesse impacts people around the globe and inspires them to strive to be their best selves.
