Alexander Yoo
Dr. Alexander Yoo currently practices as a full-time as a general neurologist and sleep medicine specialist at Sutter Health in San Francisco.
Dr. Yoo's career reflects an uncommon breadth of training. He completed his undergraduate studies in philosophy at Duke University before earning his medical degree at the University of Virginia. He undertook his residency training in neurology at the University of California, San Francisco, where he subsequently served on the faculty. He went on to complete postdoctoral fellowship training at the University of Rochester and, later, at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also completed a clinical fellowship in Sleep Medicine.
Distinctively, Dr. Yoo has complemented his clinical expertise in neurology and sleep medicine with formal training in data science, having earned a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Much of his scholarly work had resided at this intersection, applying machine learning methods to questions such as migraine attack prediction and the estimation of circadian phase from gene expression data. His prior research work and interests had spanned sleep health, circadian biology, and headache disorders, including notable work examining the influence of circadian and lunar rhythms on migraine.
