Marc Velez, Licensed Acupuncturist

Marc Velez is a California Licensed Acupuncturist, Doctor of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, and former Qualified Medical Evaluator for the State of California in practice since 2009. His personal approach applies both Western and Traditional Chinese examination and diagnosis to guide his treatment protocols. Marc's work is driven by a vision to help shape the future of medicine into one that honors both scientific excellence and genuine human connection. He has reliably demonstrated a commitment to advancing a model of health care that places the whole person (body, mind, and spirit) at the center of the healing process. Drawing from the principles of integrative medicine, Chinese medicine, and contemporary research, Marc strives to advocate for a clinical environment where empathy, presence, and deep listening are treated as essential components of both treatment and prevention. He strives to increase meaning, dignity, and relational depth to patient care while addressing the potentially depersonalizing effects of our growing dependence on technology. Ultimately, Marc's goal is to help lead medicine toward a more balanced, humanistic, and spiritually attuned future—one in which patients are not just treated, but truly seen.

Marc's career journey began with a pivotal moment in his late teens growing up in the SF Bay Area. Witnessing the lifesaving efforts of emergency responders during a tragic situation inspired him to pursue a career in healthcare. He attained EMT certification in his early 20's and would spend more than 2 decades doing volunteer medical work with Rock Medicine, then a division of the Haight-Ashbury Free Medical Clinic, providing emergency care and psychiatric intervention at concerts and large events.
In his Junior year of high school, Marc was exposed to acupuncture and Chinese medicine, and he was instantly intrigued by its seemingly mysterious ways. He would spend the next decade engaging in self-directed study before finally, in 2004, deciding to pursue a formal education at the esteemed Five Branches Institute in Santa Cruz, California, one of the oldest Chinese medicine schools in the United States. After graduation and licensure, Marc opened a small private practice in Sonoma County on a shoestring budget while treating Work Comp cases at Concentra Urgent Care in Santa Rosa. From his single-room clinic, Marc grew his clinic to a booming multi-room practice.
In 2017 Marc joined the Sutter Institute for Health & Healing in Sacramento, and would become the founding member of the Roseville location in 2018. He received his Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2024, and received a "pass with distinction" for his capstone defense. He continues to be an ardent supporter of high-quality patient care that emphasizes presence and relationship as the foundations of the medicine he practices.
