Srinivas Sarma, MD MHCM FCCP

I began my career as a Lung Transplant attending at the University of Southern California before joining the Southern California Permanente Medical Group in 2004 as a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Specialist at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center. Early in my career, I worked at the intersection of pulmonary/critical care and cardiovascular medicine—an area that has since evolved into a distinct subspecialty. I helped redesign and build the cardiovascular surgical ICU supporting what is now the largest cardiovascular surgical program in the western United States. From 2007 to 2019, I served as Director of the Cardiovascular Surgical Intensive Care Unit, leading both clinical and operational transformation. During this time, I recruited and onboarded more than 20 physicians, expanded the program to the Inland Empire, and maintained an active clinical practice caring for complex surgical patients. Under this model, the program became the largest open-heart surgery program in California and achieved a 3-star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, placing it in the top 5% nationally for patient outcomes. I have held multiple elected and appointed leadership roles within SCPMG, including Chair of the Critical Care Committee (2010–2022), President of the Medical Executive Committee, and elected member of the SCPMG Board of Directors since 2017. I previously served as Chair of the Board’s Patient Access Committee (2020–2024) and continue to serve on key subcommittees spanning finance, physician benefits, and compensation. I am also actively engaged in physician wellness efforts and serve as a peer supporter. In 2016, I completed an executive Master’s degree in Health Care Management at Harvard University to further strengthen my leadership and systems-thinking capabilities. I currently serve as Regional Director of Physician Recruitment and Workforce Planning for SCPMG, where I lead strategy across one of the largest physician workforces in the country. My focus is on aligning workforce planning with access, equity, and clinical excellence—ensuring we attract, develop, and retain physicians who thrive in a value-based, integrated care model. My professional interests center on healthcare system design, physician–administrator alignment, access and quality improvement, and solving complex organizational challenges at scale.
