Amy Matecki, MD, FACP, L.Ac

Dr. Amy (Ying Li) Matecki graduated from Qingdao Medical College in 1989 and moved to California from China in 1994. She has been licensed to practice medicine in California since 2002 and completed her Internal Medicine Residency as Chief Resident at Alameda County Medical Center (Alameda Health System), a UCSF affiliate, in 2004. She stayed on as a Faculty Attending Physician from 2004 to 2019 and was Chief of the Integrative Medicine Division from 2014 to 2019.
Dr. Matecki pioneered a hospital acupuncture program bridging Eastern and Western Medicine at the Alta Bates Summit Comprehensive Cancer Center where since 2008 she has been the Medical Director of the Center for Integrative Medicine. Integrating Chinese Medicine into conventional oncology practice, Dr. Matecki finds that using integrative medicine stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal, often reduces the pain and nausea that frequently accompanies chemotherapy, and provides essential support pre, during and post-treatment. In many case level observations, she notes that the integration of Chinese Medicine may enhance cancer patients' quality of life. Matecki has been a Consultant for Integrative Medicine and was an Internal Medicine Hospitalist at Northern California Hematology and Oncology Consultants Inc. from 2004 to 2019.
Dr. Matecki was the principal investigator (PI) of acupuncture research for chronic post-chemotherapy fatigue in collaboration with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She presented her study on the safety of Acupuncture for patients with Lymphedema at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Breast Cancer Symposium in October 2009. She was co-PI on the first Internal Review Board (IRB) approved acupuncture study in a public hospital looking at acupuncture feasibility for Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients that was published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (JACM) in 2017.
In additional to clinical practice and lead integrative medicine research projects, Dr. Matecki cofounded and is the president of International Center for Integrative Medicine (ICIM) since 2010. She helped to create the first Chinese Medicine Residency in the US at Alameda Health System, Highland Hospital from 2016 to 2019.  This has helped hospitals to hire acupuncturists to provide acupuncture services for inpatients and outpatients. Matecki also co-founded Cornerstone Integrative Medicine in 2019. She led the team and pioneered Sutter Bay Hospital's Integrative Medicine Traditional Chinese Medicine Residency training program at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in 2022.
Dr. Matecki is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Society of Integrative Oncology (SIO), California Medical Association (CMA) and Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), Board member of Society of Chinese American Physician Entrepreneurs (SCAPE). Board member, Greater Sacramento Valley Medical Center Foundation (GSVMCF), National Governing Board member of Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs (APAPA).
Dr Matecki was appointed to the California Acupuncture Board by Governor Brown in 2016, reappointed by Brown in 2017, Governor Gavin Newsom in 2021, and was Board president from 2017 to 2021. She continues to work on policy and safety guidelines for hospital-based Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine practice with a team of physicians, nursing staff, acupuncturists and multidisciplinary health care providers.
