Description:

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating condition often associated with exposure to multiple traumatic events. Previous gold standard treatment options for PTSD are becoming outdated as there have been updates in treatment strategies for the control of trauma-associated symptoms of PTSD. Additionally, there is a proposal for the distinction between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). This course aims to provide an overview of evidence-based somatic and cognitive therapeutic interventions for the healing of PTSD and Complex PTSD.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this activity learners will be able to:
1. Differentiate the definitions of "Big T and Little T trauma", as well as differences between complex PTSD and PTSD symptoms presentation.

2. Apply evidence-based treatment modalities for PTSD and complex PTSD.

3. Compare phases of trauma treatment based on symptom presentation.

4. Appraise and integrate inter-personal communication styles that are therapeutic for patients struggling with PTSD and C-PTSD.
