0576_PAMF_Heart Disease in Women_Grand Rounds_Live
Description:
This grand round activity explores the scope of heart disease in women, addressing its prevalence both in the U.S. and globally, and highlights the unique challenges women face in managing cardiovascular health. It focuses on primary care strategies for prevention, such as lipid management, risk assessment, and identifying risk factors specific to women, including hypertension, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases. Special attention is given to the increased incidence of heart failure and peripartum cardiomyopathy in women, as well as the complexities of medication management. As heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in women, this talk will emphasize the need for greater awareness among both healthcare providers and patients, especially in addressing the gender biases that have historically overlooked women’s cardiovascular health. Key topics include the importance of patient education, recognizing coronary artery disease symptoms in women, and a more nuanced approach to cardiovascular care in younger and childbearing-age women.
