Description:
This one-hour session will explore the critical role of advanced practice clinicians in the early identification, management, and destigmatization of anxiety and depression. With approximately one in four individuals experiencing a mental health condition at some point in their lives, as reported by the World Health Organization, these disorders are both highly prevalent and impactful. The session will cover effective assessment tools to aid in diagnosis, as well as common pharmacological treatments used for managing anxiety and depression. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of their role in improving patient outcomes and contributing to a more supportive and informed healthcare environment.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this learning activity, participants should be able to:
1. Employ the appropriate assessment tool to aid in the diagnosis of depression
2. Describe the most common medications prescribed for depression and anxiety.
3. Apply clinical guidelines to identify when a patient’s condition warrants referral to a psychiatrist and evaluate the key factors that determine the appropriate timing and method for referral.
