0015_SHSO_Workforce Effectiveness and Agency Reduction Capstone_Live
Description:
Healthcare leaders often report feeling unprepared for the complexity of the leadership role and unsupported (Weaver Moor & Sublett et al., 2016), yet in settings with high support, leadership has been shown to have a positive impact on patient outcomes (Wong, 2015). The American Association for Nursing Leadership (AONL) has developed core leadership domains and competencies that nurses can operationalize in their areas to be successful (Hughes Meadows et al., 2022). One of the domains, business skills, and principles, is critical to nurses and other leaders impacting healthcare systems, patient safety outcomes, and the cost of care (Raftery Sassenberg et al., 2021). This capstone presentation focuses on workforce effectiveness including labor optimization, tools and methodologies for setting appropriate labor budgets, and how to prepare for position control and labor variance reporting in order to meet Sutter Health's goals in patient access, safety, and affordability. Additionally, participants will benefit from hearing reflections from workforce effectiveness champions on best practices that support Sutter's 2024 Transition and Sustainability Planning.
