Description: 

Patients continue to suffer from pressure ulcers (PUs), despite implementation of evidence-based pressure ulcer (PU) prevention protocols. Sutter Health nurses are lifelong learners, dedicated to finding creative, evidence-based ways to promote health and implement best practices in prevention of pressure ulcers. Education is recognized as an integral component of pressure ulcer prevention.

Learning Objectives

After completion of this activity, learners will be able to:

1. Explain three risk factors for developing pressure injuries.

2. Demonstrate use of products and other strategies which will improve patient outcomes through hands on learning stations.

3. Describe safe patient handling, using a team approach, for pressure ulcer prevention and care.

4. Evaluate practice guidance on accurately assessing skin damage in varying skin tones.

5. Participate in a mock deposition to describe safe documentation of pressure ulcer prevention and care.
