Description: 

This course is intended for rehabilitation healthcare professionals and is designed to educate said professionals about Rehabilitation of Spinal Cord Injuries. Participants will learn about general spinal cord injuries and the management of common related conditions such as tendon transfers and urological conditions. Multidisciplinary management will be discussed from nursing, psychology, and therapy. Participants will be informed of community resources for the spinal cord injured population, and lastly, will hear about patient and caregiver perspectives and experiences.

Learning Objectives

After completing this activity, learners will be able to:

•Identify current incidence and prevalence rates for SCI in the US

•Describe current trends in tendon transfer techniques

•List common urological conditions and surgical interventions for SCI patients

•Utilize evidence-based approaches to behavior & psychological management in SCI

•Verbalize nursing concerns and considerations for the SCI patient

•Identify interdisciplinary therapeutic assessment & management techniques for patients with Central Cord Syndrome

•List community resources available for SCI survivors and their caregivers •Understand the process of recovery from the patient and caregiver perspective
