Enhanced Course Description Sutter Health Standardized Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) Course This 4-hour virtual training is tailored specifically for Sutter Health Perinatal nurses and fulfills the biannual continuing education requirement. The course delivers an in-depth, evidence-based review of core and advanced fetal monitoring concepts, aligned with Sutter Health’s clinical standards and policies.
Participants will engage with the following key topics:
- Maternal-Fetal Physiology: Understanding the dynamic interplay between maternal and fetal systems during pregnancy and labor.
- NICHD Terminology: Standardized language for interpreting fetal heart rate patterns.
- Fetal Tracing Interpretation: Systematic analysis of electronic fetal monitoring tracings to assess fetal well-being.
- Clinical Interventions: Appropriate responses to abnormal tracings and clinical scenarios.
- Perinatal Risk Management: Strategies to mitigate liability and enhance patient safety.
- Umbilical Cord Gas Analysis: Interpretation of acid-base status and implications for neonatal outcomes.
- Effective Communication Techniques: SBAR and other structured methods to promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Sutter Health Policy Review: Application of institutional guidelines to clinical practice.
- Documentation Strategies: Best practices for accurate and defensible charting.
- Complex Case Study Analysis: Application of learned concepts to real-world scenarios.

Upon completing this course, learners will be able to:
