This 8-hour trauma course is designed for Registered Nurses and other healthcare professionals. The curriculum includes lectures with interactive Q&A sessions and case study discussions, focusing on standardized trauma assessment, chest trauma, hemodynamics, pelvic and thoracic trauma, respiratory therapy in trauma patients, ARDS, nutrition in wound care, early mobilization, and an overview of life in the Trauma Bay. Eden's trauma program manager will provide an update on our Trauma Program. Participants will be equipped with resources to adopt a trauma-informed approach to care, ensuring culturally and linguistically appropriate practices free from implicit bias. The objective of this course is to enhance the participant’s knowledge of trauma nursing assessment, protocols, patient management, communication skills, evidence-based practices, and psychological aspects for practical application.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this learning event, participants should be able to:
-Apply trauma care protocols and best practices in a clinical setting
-Review the anatomy and physiology of the thoracic cage
-Understand special populations and their risks related to thoracic trauma
-Demonstrate the necessary skills and confidence to manage complex chest trauma cases using hemodynamic assessment
-Apply enhanced communication skills to ensure accurate and efficient communication of assessment findings across the care continuum
-Implement timely pain management in thoracic trauma patients and techniques to achieve effective pain control
-Define the role of specific nutrients in wound healing -Determine appropriate situations of early mobilization therapies in ICU patients
-Identify common contraindications of early mobility
