The Psychiatric Grand Rounds is an educational series designed to improve psychiatric, psychological, and social work practice, including patient care, education, and public health. Relevant case studies are presented to promote active learning strategies. These presentations are open to all mental health professionals, including students. The extra session held in March will cover the implications of adverse childhood experiences on older adults experiencing mental health. There is a large number of individuals in the United States who have experienced trauma in early childhood. In 2019 the Center of Disease Control showed that 61% of respondents in a population survey reported at least one adverse childhood experience, and as many as 16% reported that they had experienced four or more of these events. This session will discuss the clinical relevance of ACEs in older adults and practical recommendations for trauma-informed care.

Learning Objectives
After attendance of this activity, learners will be able to:
#1. Describe the mechanisms of early trauma and the ways early trauma may resurface and present in older patients.
#2. Identify the basics of trauma-informed care and understand how to screen for ACES without retraumatizing patients.
#3. Define cognitive and physical limitations in selecting therapy interventions.
