Description:
This interactive faculty development session explores how mindset theory—particularly the distinctions between fixed, growth, and false growth mindsets—impacts clinical teaching and supervision. Designed for attending physicians, the session will highlight how subtle cues in language, feedback, and behavior shape resident learning and professional identity. Through practical discussions and reflective exercises, participants will identify mindset-related patterns in their own teaching and receive practical strategies to promote strategic effort, adaptive learning, and accountability. Faculty will leave equipped to model growth-oriented behaviors within their teams and foster a culture of intentional development across clinical settings.
Target Audience
Physicians (MD or DO)

Learning Objectives
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Define and distinguish between fixed, authentic growth, and false growth mindsets in the context of graduate medical education.
2. Evaluate clinical teaching and supervision practices to identify implicit mindset messaging and its effects on resident learning.
3. Apply strategies that reinforce authentic growth mindset principles, including feedback language and modeling deliberate learning behaviors.
