0755_SHVGR_HIPEC: Turning Up the Heat in Ovarian Cancer_Live
Description
HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) is emerging as a powerful tool in the treatment of epithelial ovarian cancer, offering new possibilities for patients who previously faced limited options. This lecture, led by Dr. Katie K. Crean-Tate, examines how HIPEC is changing the landscape of care—beginning with an overview of current treatment pathways and their impact on patient prognosis and experience. The session will provide a clear understanding of the science behind HIPEC, including its mechanism of action during surgery and the rationale for its use in advanced cases. Drawing on real-world clinical evidence, the lecture will also address patient selection criteria, helping clinicians identify those most likely to benefit from this intensive yet potentially life-altering therapy. Looking ahead, the course will explore promising innovations such as minimally invasive techniques that may broaden access to HIPEC and further improve outcomes for women with ovarian cancer.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
1.) Review typical treatment paradigm and prognosis for patients with epithelial ovarian cancer.
2.) Describe technique and therapeutic rationale behind using hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).
3.) Identify appropriate patient populations for HIPEC and summarize key clinical evidence.
4.) Discuss emerging directions for HIPEC, including minimally invasive approaches and expanded eligibility criteria.
