0767_SHSO_Remediation of Struggling Learners_Live

October 16, 2025

Description:

This one-hour faculty development session equips faculty with the tools and mindset to support residents and fellows who require remediation, emphasizing a strength-based, equitable approach, leading to a more competent, confident, and capable physician workforce, ultimately leading to clinical excellence. Traditional remediation practices often feel punitive and biased, disproportionately affecting nontraditional and BIPOC learners. Through early identification, structured coaching, and transparent processes, faculty can foster environments where all learners feel safe seeking support. Participants will explore strategies to diagnose learner challenges, mitigate bias in evaluation, and design individualized learning plans that promote growth and reduce reliance on disciplinary pathways. By reframing remediation as a proactive, learner-centered process, this session aims to enhance faculty confidence, improve remediation outcomes, and uphold the commitment to educate all learners to the highest standards of medical professionalism.
