Description:
This course is designed to address the shortage of experienced clinical researchers within graduate medical education programs, equipping faculty with essential skills to mentor trainees in research. Participants will learn to design and analyze various study types, including case-control, cohort, randomized trials, and diagnostic test studies, while mastering key epidemiologic concepts such as validity, bias, confounding, and statistical significance. Through weekly readings and hands-on proposal development, attendees will produce their own research proposals and gain expertise in critiquing medical literature. 1. Analyze examples where bias or reverse causality affects study conclusions.
2. Evaluate the effectiveness of different confounding control methods.
3. Describe the components of DAGs, including colliders, shared effects, mediation, and suppression.
4. Evaluate implications of effect modification for study interpretation.
