Description:
This grand rounds lecture equips the interdisciplinary healthcare team with the knowledge and communication strategies needed to approach prognostication in chronic neurological illness with confidence and competence. Attendees will examine the clinical importance of timely prognostic communication, explore evidence-based frameworks for navigating these conversations with patients and families, and learn to recognize the role of uncertainty and bias in prognostic decision making.

Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, learners will be able to:
1. Recognize the significance of prognostication in chronic neurological illness to prepare for the future and as a foundation for shared decision making.
2. Present the need for the right context, timing, style and environment for conversations around prognosis, so that these may be relevant, effective, and build instead of break rapport.
3. Identify the inherent complexities and limitations involved in prognostication, including the role of uncertainty and bias.
4. Practice effective communication strategies and frameworks to guide these discussions while recognizing these limitations.
