0934_PAMF_IP Series_ NHSN CAUTI Surveillance and Prevention for Novice Infection Preventionists: Definitions, Bundle Practices, and Reporting Essentials_Live
Description:
This educational mentorship activity is a structured, competency-based training session designed to develop foundational proficiency in Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) surveillance, prevention practices, and NHSN reporting for novice Infection Preventionists (IPs). The curriculum integrates current CDC/NHSN 2026 UTI Protocol, APIC 2025 CAUTI Implementation Guidelines, and CMS IQR/HACRP regulatory expectations to prepare new IPs for accurate surveillance, device day management, and data-driven quality improvement. The session employs a progressive learning design, beginning with definitional accuracy and building toward practical clinical application, analytic interpretation, and health equity considerations. Through case-based application and high reliability teaching strategies, learners gain the ability to accurately classify events, support bedside practice, and translate surveillance findings into prevention actions.

2. Implement evidence based CAUTI prevention bundle elements—including appropriate catheter use, aseptic insertion, and maintenance practices—to reduce device days and prevent infections.
3. Accurately enter CAUTI events and device day denominators into NHSN and use SIR/TAP analytic tools to guide local quality improvement efforts.
