Frances Barrios

Frances Barrios is the Director of Office of Well-Being Programs at Sutter Health, where she leads enterprise workplace well-being initiatives. Her work centers on Peer Support, a confidential, peer-to-peer program that connects colleagues going through a challenging time. That might be a difficult event at work, such as unexpected patient outcomes or workplace violence, or personal stressors that carry over into the workday. She is guiding the program from a collection of local efforts toward a connected, measurable system. Under her leadership, awareness of the program is growing, leading to a steady increase in both people reaching out for themselves and colleagues referring others.
Frances has spent more than 25 years in healthcare, more than half of them working alongside physicians and advanced practice clinicians. As Physician Services Director supporting the Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group, she oversaw onboarding, offboarding, and clinician experience efforts, and partnered with physician leaders on engagement and retention. Before that, she spent nine years at Palo Alto Medical Foundation managing department and clinic operations.
Earlier in her career, Frances managed multi-site clinic operations, led staff and community education, and guided healthcare technology implementations. She holds a Bachelor or Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
