Description:
The Year-in-Review highlights the most influential delirium research published in the last 12-18 months. The primary purpose of this activity is to disseminate new knowledge gained through current research. The secondary purpose includes the facilitation of discussion intended to promote clinical advances through a change in clinician behaviors, improved collaboration among various disciplines or healthcare roles (i.e., established or early career researchers as well as acute, post-acute or community clinicians), and improved patient or population outcomes. Topics for this session include:
• Plasma biomarkers and delirium incidence
• Association between intraoperative EEG findings and delirium
• Biomarkers associated with postoperative delirium • Impacts of medication and anesthesia approaches to reduce delirium
• Metformin use and delirium
• Incidence of delirium in general medicine wards
• Persistence of delirium in post-acute care

Learning Objectives
By the end of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
1. Summarize new findings identified in the most recent delirium research published within the last year.
2. Identify recent advances examining the association between biomarkers and delirium incidence
3.Examine studies using intra-operative EEG measurements and delirium incidence
4. Compare results of studies evaluating novel medication and anesthesia approaches to reduce delirium
5. Reflect on findings of studies examining the incidence of delirium in general medicine wards and persistence of symptoms in post-acute care
