Robert Bober, Robert M. Bober, MD, FACC, FASNC

Dr. Robert Bober is a nuclear cardiologist with a clinical and academic focus on advanced cardiac PET and quantitative myocardial blood-flow physiology. His work centers on moving beyond the anatomic diagnosis of coronary artery disease toward physiologic assessment that helps distinguish disease best treated medically from ischemia that benefits from revascularization. A particular emphasis of his work is understanding coronary artery disease as a physiologic continuum—ranging from diffuse to discrete disease—and how patterns such as subendocardial ischemia and microvascular dysfunction influence that continuum. His work also addresses the frequent discordance between physiologic metrics of ischemia and how these data are integrated into clinical decision-making.
Dr. Bober’s publications span both technical and clinical aspects of cardiac PET, including myocardial blood-flow quantification with rubidium-82, infusion protocol optimization, decay correction, and the accurate characterization of myocardial scar. His clinical research has focused on coronary flow capacity, subendocardial ischemia, microvascular dysfunction, and the impact of revascularization on myocardial blood flow and patient outcomes. He has participated in and advised multiple clinical imaging trials and continues to collaborate broadly across academic and industry partners.
He is a frequent invited speaker and educator at national and international meetings, with more than two decades of experience teaching fellows and practicing physicians in nuclear cardiology and advanced PET interpretation. He has also helped establish and standardize cardiac PET programs nationally, with an emphasis on quality, workflow, and physiologic interpretation.
Dr. Bober practices with Sutter East Bay Medical Group, where his current focus is on building and expanding cardiac PET programs across the Sutter system, promoting consistent physiologic interpretation, and integrating quantitative PET into everyday clinical decision-making. He is board-certified in cardiology and nuclear cardiology and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.
