Catherine Laufer-Demotte, MSN, RN, CCRN
I have been with Sutter Health for 35 years. I began as an ECG Technician while attending Nursing School. Prior to Sutter, I graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Physiology. I had been working in Medical Research at UC Davis since graduation, when I made the decision to become a nurse.
After graduating from the CSU Sacramento Nursing Program, I started working in the Cardiovascular ICU at Sutter Memorial Hospital.
I returned to Sac State to complete my MSN after working bedside for 20 years. The 20 years at bedside expanded my knowledge by leaps & bounds. I learned immense knowledge from the various experiences with my team of peers and working with interdisciplinary staff and physicians.
With close to 30 years at bedside, I joined the Education team and started as ICU Educator for the Medical, Cardiac and Neuroscience & Surgical iCU at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento. Within two years, I became the CVSICU Educator as well.
It has been an adventure through COVID and the start of new processes. I feel fortunate to be in an occupational space that I love. The Intensive Care Unit will always be close to my nursing heart. However, the last many years have broadened my horizon of Critical Care to fully embrace that ICU nurses will always be one united team of strong, passionate, intelligent and caring nurses. We can only be the best when we are a together as a team.
