Description:
The Vascular Access Education Day is an in-person training for bedside nurses designed to enhance knowledge of vascular access device types, their use, and to provide hands-on skills practice of device management techniques to maintain patient health and prevent complications.
Topics include:
• Overview of Ultrasound Guided Access
• Vascular Access Devices
• Management of: Peripheral IVs, PICCs (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter), and Tunneled and non tunneled CVCs (Central Venous Catheter)
• Infection Prevention
• Documentation
• Case Studies

Learning Objectives
By the end of this training session, RNs will:
1. Demonstrate safe and aseptic techniques for maintaining different types of vascular access devices (e.g., peripheral IVs, PICCs, tunneled and non-tunneled) to ensure patient safety and prevent complications.
2. Apply infection prevention and control measures, including proper hand hygiene, aseptic techniques, and the use of sterile equipment during insertion, maintenance, and removal of vascular access devices.
3. Assess the function and condition of vascular access devices, troubleshoot common issues such as occlusions or malfunctions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems or escalate care when necessary.
