By the end of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
1. Explain how a hybrid closed-loop system works and their role in supporting children who utilize this therapy.
2. Summarize how continuous glucose monitoring is more effective and accurate than blood glucose monitoring including the share feature, reporting capability, and use with insulin pumps.
3. Reflect on one's own biases as it relates to type 2 diabetes and obesity, facilitating improved care of children with this condition.
4. Discuss different concepts of nutrition in diabetes including carbohydrate counting and plant-based eating.
5. Apply concepts taught today with their patients with type 1 diabetes as it relates to hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, medications, monitoring, and sick day management.
6. Discuss the importance of an interdisciplinary team in managing diabetes and how each discipline is important to the care of these children.
