Sutter Health leaders and care teams are critical to fulfilling our vision of achieving the highest levels of quality, access and affordability. They need specific knowledge and exposure to our healthcare environment as well as tools in process improvement, leading teams, driving change and partnering with patients. The MCE program has helped equip these teams for success since 1999. The course is designed for clinical leaders, practitioners, administrators and other healthcare professionals whose work involves improving and/or supporting clinical processes and clinical integration strategies or conducting related research. The target level is supervisors and above.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this learning activity, learners will be able to:
1. Describe foundational principles and frameworks for leadership to improve patient safety
2. Identify new practice and policy initiatives related to high-risk patient safety areas that require leadership accountability for implementation
3. Apply leadership and safety management principles to improve high-risk patient safety areas using pragmatic self-assessment tools and strategies
4. Engage patient and family partners in the healthcare team will apply strategies to engage patients and their families in process improvement work in alignment with organizational initiatives focused on quality and safety outcomes.
5. Demonstrate change leadership acumen in improvement work and apply strategies to improve inter-professional teamwork through focused topics on leadership, communication, collaboration, decision making and resolution.
6. Apply the knowledge and skills to employee HFE concepts to improving human performance and reduce the risks associated with error.
